A Springdale couple has been criminally charged after police say they left their 8-week-old child unattended inside a Goodwill thrift store.

It happened at 2:30 p.m. this past Saturday at the Goodwill location on Springfield Place in Woodlawn.

According to police documents, 21-year-old Antonia Gonzalez-Morales and 22-year-old Yovuni Velasquez Morales are each facing one count of misdemeanor child endangering.

According to Woodlawn Police, the child was left in an aisle unattended while the couple shopped.  Witnesses told police the pair was no where to be found while concerned customers "frantically searched for them".

Witnesses told police the baby was alone for at least 35 minutes.

They also said the couple tried to leave the store prior to the police coming to the store in an effort to avoid arrest.  According to police, Mr. Morales stated "he knew he/they would go to jail."
