Cody Couch of Hebron, Kentucky jumped into action when he heard that his 67-year-old neighbor was trapped inside her home on Benjamin Lane due to high water.
"The water was knee-high or higher and she was stuck in the house. We went over and knocked on the door and tried to tell her not to open the door but she did and the water gushed into her house," said Couch.
The rescue came after Thursday night's storms brought so much heavy rain during a short time that it forced a nearby creek out of its banks.
"She was panicking on the way out and the water just kept rising and we had to get her out fast," said Couch.
The woman's son was across the creek but the high water kept him from getting to her.
"My mom's house is a total loss because of the foundation, it lifted the foundation. I've lived here 31 years and never seen this happen before – and it's – it’s miserable," said Dave Heff, of Hebron.
The woman and her two cats made it out of the home safely.
Businesses and one local church were also cleaning up on Friday.
Insurance adjusters spent the day surveying the gaping hole at the UPS warehouse in Hebron, after part of the roof collapsed.
No one was hurt.
A spokesperson says the damage is contained to a the corner where returns are processed and the business is back up and running.
Firefighters used a sump pump to empty out the water that filled the Hebron Gospel Fellowship Church on Petersburg Road after the storm.
A nearby creek flooded its banks and the rushing water crumbled part of the block foundation into the church's 100-year-old basement.
"The basement at that point was full of water, which I'm guessing was seven-feet of water," said Jerry O'Shea, with the Hebron Gospel Fellowship Church.
Water also damaged items inside Bob's Heating & Air also on Petersburg Road in Hebron.
Items were put outside to dry in the sun after a creek that runs behind the building flooded the inside.
What amazed those who work there is that the rushing water swept away their dumpster.
"I never did see it go, but when I went inside and the water went down and came back out it was gone. It's an eight-by-eight dumpster, it took it, too. The water was probably six to eight feet," said Phillip Cooper, with Bob's Heating & Air.
On Friday afternoon, Rumpke delivered a new dumpster.
Besides heavy rains, residents also reported golf ball-size hail that damaged cars, including breaking one vehicle's mirror.
As for the Hebron Gospel Fellowship Church, they'll have to hold Sunday services elsewhere as they work to protect the church's foundation.
"Right now, its open and I'm sure we'll have critters around, animals of all kind, so we'll shore up the side and decide what has to be done on a long term basis," said O'Shea.
