The City of Cincinnati is facing a projected $40 million dollar budget shortfall by the end of 2010.

City Manager, Milton Dohoney, is preparing to present the latest information on the budget at Monday's finance committee.

Several city council members say they don't want to raise taxes on citizens that are already struggling to make ends meet.

Council member Leslie Ghiz says she realizes cuts will have to be made.

Ghiz says she doesn't want to cut personnel from public safety departments like police and fire, but realizes some people may lose their jobs.

"I've said this before. I've said it to everybody out there. They're going to be horribly painful cuts. We're going to lose programs. We're going to lose services. We're going to lose personnel. There is no possible way we can balance that budget without this happening," Ghiz said.

Residents are being asked to come to the hearing to give their input on how to balance the budget.

The budget hearing starts at 1 p.m. this afternoon in council chambers.
