CINCINNATI (AP) -- Quarterback Tony Pike is still on target to start for No. 5 Cincinnati against Illinois on Friday.
Coach Brian Kelly said Monday the senior's injured left forearm has healed more during the Bearcats' bye week, and he's planning to let Pike make his first start since Oct. 15 at South Florida. Pike had a plate in his non-throwing arm damaged during that game and had to have it replaced.
Sophomore backup Zach Collaros started the next four games and helped the Bearcats (10-0) remain unbeaten. Pike played briefly in a 24-21 win over West Virginia on Nov. 13, taking four snaps and throwing two touchdown passes.
Kelly said Pike will start on Friday unless something unexpected happens during practice this week.
Before the game kicks off at noon, 9News will broadcast "Bearcat Fever, Climb To The Top," a one-hour special featuring analysis of the game and other tidbits about the bowl-bound Bearcats.
