Imagine being able to drive a car for the equivalent of 80 cents a gallon instead of paying $4.00 a gallon for gas. That's what the Cincinnati developers of a new kind of electric car called the Monomobile or "Liberator Car" say their prototype vehicle can do.

On Thursday, developers showed off their one-seat monomobile at Hyde Park Square and even drove the small electric car around the block for 9News.

The Liberator Car uses battery power for short hops around town but switches to an electrified overhead track for longer travel along interstate type roads.

The electricity from the track powers the car's battery allowing the car to operate automatically while computers tell it which exit to take off the highway.

The Cincinnati inventors of the Liberator Car, Jay Andress and Andy Webster, say their invention combines the best of all worlds with the convenience of a clean, affordable and safe private car with the advantages of public transportation.

The pair are now looking for investors to get the necessary $10 million to build a one-mile test track in Clermont County.
