Layoffs of about 100 employees at the Cincinnati Enquirer are also affecting the staff of CinWeekly, its publication aimed at young readers.
While Cincinnati Enquirer representatives could not comment on how many CinWeekly employees were laid off, they did mention a rebranding of the publication that is currently in the works.
CinWeekly will be renamed Metro Mix starting next week. The publication will be similar, but more focused on entertainment, dining, movies and a promotable calendar, said Tom Callinan, the Editor and Vice President of the Cincinnati Enquirer.
"The brand is gone but the product is still there," Callinan said.
Callinan attributed the change in name to a shift in the audience and their interests. To help target that audience Callinan said that the Cincinnati Enquirer will be hiring employees skilled in digital media.
Representatives from Gannett Co., the owner of the Cincinnati Enquirer, stated on July 2 that they would lay off 1,400 employees.
CinWeekly has been published for six years and currently has a staff of nine, Callinan said.
Calls to representatives of CinWeekly and Gannett's Corporate office were not immediately returned.
