The Butler County Sheriff is calling on the community to help the United Way make up the shortfall of its 2008 campaign.

Sheriff Richard Jones and United Way leaders joined forces at Shared Harvest Foodbank to announce the United Way needs another $200,000 to help the growing needs of the community.

The need for utility bill assistance is up 67 percent.

Food pantries are seeing dozens of new families a week and the Shared Harvest Foodbank has seen a 25 percent increase in demand for food.

The sheriff is asking people to donate whatever they can.

"I'm calling on the kids in school to make it a class project. I'm calling on the police departments, the government agencies to take collations up. Just a little bit more. We can do this together and we can collect this 200-thousand dollar shortfall," Jones said.
