Some Burlington, Kentucky residents are returning to their homes after a fire sent them out into the cold early Monday morning.

Officials say the residents of an apartment building in the 6400 block of Rosetta Drive woke up to flames around 1:30 a.m. after a mattress in the bedroom of a basement apartment caught fire.

According to firefighters, all of the residents made it out of the building safely, and most of the occupants were able to return to their homes about an hour and a half later.

The basement unit where the fire started reportedly suffered the most damage.  Officials say the resident of that apartment will not be able to return to his home for a few days.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
