A Maysville, Kentucky man is in critical condition after a boat explosion Wednesday afternoon.

Officials say Jack Fultz and Joe Brewer were working on engines of a boat over 40 feet long around 3:45 p.m. near the William Harsha Bridge in Aberdeen, Ohio. Brewer put the back end of the boat into the water to start one engine and a big explosion erupted.

Brewer avoided injury because he was underneath the boat deck. Fultz was still on the boat when the explosion occurred and he suffered serious burns.

He was flown by a medical helicopter to University Hospital in Cincinnati. Hospital officials say Fultz was in critical condition Thursday afternoon.

Officials say Jack Fultz owns the boat and is the Emergency Management Director for Maysville, Ky.

Mayor of Maysville, David Cartmell, comments about Fultz, "He's done so much for so many people. You know, there's just so much knowledge that it's, you really miss somebody like that. We don't just hope he comes back, we need him back."
