Three car companies learned on Tuesday they will get billions in dollars to create new gas-saving technologies including electric cars.
Ford will get $5.9 billion to transform factories in Illinois, Kentucky, Michigan and Ohio and produce 13 more fuel efficient models.
Nissan North America was awarded a $1.6 billion loan to retool its Smyrna, Tennessee factory to build advanced electric cars.
And Tesla Motors will get a $465 million loan to build a plant in California to manufacture a sedan that is more affordable than its Roadster.
These are the first three loans, but other car makers will get loans over the next several months.
AMP Car Company in Blue Ash is still waiting to hear if it will get a $20 million loan to buy a building in Blue Ash to mass-convert cars into electric vehicles.
