CINCINNATI (AP) -- Carson Palmer has another option in the Cincinnati Bengals' passing game.

The Bengals took tight end Chase Coffman from Missouri late in the third round of the draft on Sunday. Coffman is a 6-foot-5 player known for his ability to make tough catches. He'll have to work on his blocking in the pros.

Coffman was the second of Cincinnati's two picks in the third round. They took a chance earlier in the round, taking inconsistent defensive end Michael Johnson from Georgia Tech. Johnson is tall and fast, but tends to follow a good play with a bad one. The Bengals are hoping to turn him into a third-down pass rusher.

Bengals Take A Center In 4th Round

CINCINNATI (AP) -- The Bengals made another move to upgrade their offensive line, taking center Jonathan Luigs from Arkansas in thefourth round of the draft.

Luigs won the Rimington Trophy as the nation's top center after the 2006 season.

Cincinnati took offensive tackle Andre Smith in the first round on Saturday, trying to improve a line that let Carson Palmer get battered last season.

The Bengals helped both their defense and their offense in Sunday's third round, taking defensive end Michael Johnson from Georgia and tight end Chase Coffman from Missouri. Johnson is expected to be a third-down pass rusher. Coffman is known for making tough catches.

Bengals Take Local Punter In Fifth Round

CINCINNATI (AP) -- Needing a punter, the Cincinnati Bengals went for the one they knew best.

The Bengals used their fifth-round pick Sunday on Kevin Huber, who grew up in town and went to the University of Cincinnati. He was one of the Bearcats' most valuable players during their Big East championship season, pinning down opponents with his accuracy.

Huber was playing golf on a local course when he got the call from the Bengals. He immediately ended his round and headed for Paul Brown Stadium.

Huber will compete for the job with Kyle Larson, who averaged 39.5 yards on 100 punts last season. Coach Marvin Lewis made it a priority to improve the punting game.

Bengals Take Michigan CB Trent In Sixth Round

CINCINNATI (AP) -- Cornerback Morgan Trent went to the Cincinnati Bengals in the sixth round of the NFL draft, giving him a chance to turn his speed into a spot on special teams.

The Bengals wanted to add depth at cornerback and took Trent with the 179th overall choice on Sunday.

Trent has plenty of speed -- he outran former Ohio State receiver Ted Ginn Jr. at high school track meets. But with the Wolverines he gave up big plays at cornerback and had trouble tackling.

He could get a chance to use his speed on special teams in Cincinnati while he tries to improve as a cornerback.

Trent was the first of Cincinnati's two picks in the sixth round. The Bengals have three picks in the seventh round.

Bengals Take Troubled RB Scott In 2nd Sixth Round Pick

CINCINNATI (AP) -- The Bengals are taking a chance on another troubled player.

They drafted running back Bernard Scott with their second pick in the sixth round Sunday, bringing in a player with a history of arrests. Scott won the Harlon Hill Trophy as the top Division II player last season at Abilene Christian, his fourth college since 2003.

The Bengals were looking for depth at running back, but had been trying to stay away from troubled players in recent drafts following their run of player arrests. Ten Bengals were arrested over a 14-month span beginning in April 2006.

They've had only one player arrested in the last year -- cornerback Leon Hall was charged with drunken driving earlier this month.

Bengals Take RB, DT, WR In Seventh Round

CINCINNATI (AP) -- The Bengals had a busy final round of the draft.

With two compensatory picks, the Bengals wound up with three choices in the seventh round on Sunday. They tried to add to their depth at three different spots.

Cincinnati took running back Taufui Vakapuna from Brigham Young, defensive tackle Clinton McDonald from Memphis and receiver Freddie Brown from Utah.

The Bengals had 11 picks overall in the seven rounds and spread them around by position, taking an offensive tackle, a linebacker, two defensive linemen, a tight end, a center, a cornerback, two running backs, a receiver and a punter.
