The Tri-state was well represented in Washington, D.C. this week for the Scripps National Spelling Bee.

Madeline Weiner represented Northern Kentucky and Southeast Indiana.

Madeline had an early exit, but Anna Delamerced, who represented Southwest Ohio, was able to get into the semi-finals.

Her goal was to get to the third round, but on Friday, with her classmates at Summit Country Day watching, Anna exceeded her own expectations.

It was a rough day for the spellers though in the semi-final round at the "Big Bee," going down like swatted flies.

Just about every TV at the Summit Country Day School was surrounded by nervous students – all anxiously waiting.

Then Anna heard her word – Terzetto.

And you could feel the tension among her classmates.

Anna may not have spelled it right, but she was still a hero at her school.

"I feel bad for her, but I'm also really proud of her because she wanted to get to the third round and she made it to the fifth round and I heard some of the words she had to spell and I couldn't even pronounce them let alone spell them, so, good job, Anna!," said one of her friends.

All of these students watched, knowing Anna's accomplishments are tremendous.

"For her to get that far. the final 44 in the country," said Michael Fee, of Summit Country Day School. "She's one of the top 50-spellers in the country."

And they love her – win or lose.

In case you're wondering, a "Terzetto" is a triplet in musical terms.

9News spoke with Anna and her mother afterwards, who said they were going to watch the finals from a more comfortable position – in the audience.

But Anna is very happy with how she fared, and her parents are thrilled with her accomplishment.
