My name is Michael Johnson and last summer I worked as a mobile DJ for Solid Gold Sound. I did several weddings for them but getting paid from them is nearly impossible. It is now February of 2008 and I have still not been paid for a wedding that I performed on August 8, 2008 and one I performed on September 20, 2008. I have sent more than 50 e-mails and made dozens of calls but all I get are false promises that they will pay me. I have contacted the brides of the weddings and they were both VERY happy and had paid months in advance for the wedding. Two weeks ago, I received an e-mail from John Kruer, the owner, telling me that if I kept “bothering” the company by requesting payment that he will never pay me. This has forced me to file a lawsuit in King County District Court against them. You will also find more than 50 complaints against this company on a website called, “The Rip-off Report”. If you are considering using this company for your wedding, I would strongly suggest that you look elsewhere. They have no screening process for their DJs…this probably doesn’t matter because they don’t pay them, but they pretty much have the first warm body they can find show up at your event. When I signed on with them, I gave them a phone call and told them I was interested in working with them. I hung up the phone with 3 weddings...and I hadn’t even given them my last name. Luckily, I’ve been a DJ for 10 years, but I’m sure there are many others that probably don’t have the proper equipment or even know how to DJ that have done the same thing. I have many others complaints about Solid Gold Sound but I only have 2000 characters here, but please, Google “Solid Gold Sound complaints” and “Solid Gold Sound sucks” and you will find many, many more.

Please, please, please...check the national Better Business Bureau database BEFORE signing contracts or sending any money to any vendor for services on what will be one of the most important days of your life. I truly feel awful for the people who have been taken by this company, including many subcontracted DJ's and Videographers who have never been paid for their hard work. This company is notorious within the DJ/Videographer field for being bottom feeders who treat people poorly and seem to lack any conscience.

I am trying to get a refund well ahead of my wedding due to the horror stories over this company. I am unable to get a response to my cancellation letter sent by certified mail 7/30/08, any of my phone calls, or e-mails. I reported them to the BBB, they still have not responded, but I don't think it is going to do any good since I see they have numerous unresolved complaints--similar to mine. I'm out $485 and it really hurt me with trying to pay for my wedding. I hear they have a bad reputation for even showing up so I do not want to chance them.

Even if you file a BBB report you may still have to go to small claims. I did the same thing giving them money in advance and I have already hired another DJ. I found out about their reputation and had the pleasure of speaking with the rude ass John Kruer, who treated me like dirt. The are ignoring my e-mails and phone calls. Something needs to be done. I'm out $485.

I would like to Add Chicago to this list. I have a wedding this coming Saturday. SGS keeps putting us into voicemail after being on hold for 20 min at a time. When we mentioned to the owner John the problems we have, not being contacted by a DJ or Video by now (3 days before) and seeing the reports on the internet he went balistic. Yelling profanities! Now we have no idea what to do. They already cashed the check. and will not respond or provide us with contact information on the DJ or videographer! Be warned SGS is a danngerous buisness to start dealing with! Had we known, I would of booked elsewhere!

Out of Rhode Island....just scammed by A Solid Gold Sound; we made an error by paying them in advance before the service; we continually called them to set up a meeting with the DJ who mysteriously never had a name or any ontact information. ASGS told us "It's not typical for the DJ to meet with the bride and groom before the wedding." They said thee DJ would call us and when he didnt, they promised the "president" would call us becuse he was the only one who knew who our DJ was---he never called either. We followed steps to get our money back but arent sure if that's considered cancelling because we said no prior to the event. We hired another DJ. Apparently, SGS has quite the reputation. Little did we know we had picked the worst. They advertise "You shouldnt need a lawyer to hire a DJ." Apparently, with them, you do!!! This stinks because now we may be out $600.00. If we don't get our money back, we will report them to BBB and the Atty General here.
