Twenty dogs, two birds and a cat removed from an empty Tri-State home in May will be available to the public for adoption on Saturday.
On May 11,
SPCA Cincinnati removed the animals from a home in the 2500 block of Vestray Avenue when neighbors of the property called the police about a terrible stench coming from the home. SPCA Cincinnati officers, Cincinnati Police and Cincinnati firefighters discovered squalid living conditions and 23 animals living in the home. No owner could be found, and the animals, living in filth, suffered from many health problems.
SPCA's veterinary staff has groomed, examined and administered appropriate medical care to the animals, and the animals will be available for adoption at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 18. Adoptions will take place at the SPCA Cincinnati Humane Center at
11900 Conrey Road in Sharonville. A viewing of the animals will begin at noon.
The dogs and cat have been spayed or neutered. The dogs range from small to medium sizes, and the cat is a male, domestic short-hair. The two parakeets will be adopted out as a pair.
The SPCA warns that some of the animals do have health conditions that will cause the animals to need ongoing veterinary care. Each animal's adopter will receive detailed information about his or her pet's condition, but adopters should carefully consider their ability to provide necessary care for animals with health problems.
If more than one person is interested in the same animal, a lottery system will be used. Adopters must complete a pre-adoption questionnaire before they are eligible to adopt.
