Cincinnati Opera is once again charting new territories with a production of "Ainadamar."
The opera promises to be the artistic event of the season.

Argentinean composer, Osvaldo Golijov injected the classical form of the opera, seen in three acts (or images) with Flamenco music and contemporary dance. This highly poetic piece blending myth with reality, opens with a familiar theme of life and death. This theme repeats throughout the work and culminates with a series of symbols of freedom, sacrifice and immortality.

The opera tells a story of a tragic life of Frederico Garcia Lorca, who was killed by the Franco Nationalist Militia at the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War in 1936. His life serves as a backdrop to this modern opera.

Cincinnati Opera presents Osvaldo Golijov's 'Ainadamar' July 9 and 11 at Music Hall.
Kelley O'Connor sings the role of Federico Garcia Lorca, Dawn Upshaw the role of Margarita Xirgu and Jessica Rivera the role of Nuria.
