CINCINNATI -- Homeowners will be checking their property for damages Wednesday morning after a wild night that brought fallen trees, high water, and power outages to the Tri-State.

The series of severe storms that swept through overnight brought lightning and heavy winds powerful enough to knock a tree completely down onto a car in the 200 block of Park Avenue in Ludlow, Ky.

Another fallen tree in Goshen completely blocked part of Main Street near Linton Road. Firefighters had to close the area to traffic while they chopped up the tree and cleared it away.

No one was injured by either downed tree, but many residents did experience power outages as a result.

Thousands of Tri-State residents spent part of the overnight hours in the dark because of the storm.

At the height of the outages, Duke Energy reported over 4,600 homes and business without power. Most of those outages were in Hamilton County.

As of 7 a.m. all but 771 Ohio and Northern Kentucky customers had regained power, according to Duke's Web Site.

Aside from dodging falling tree limbs, drivers were faced with the additional danger of high water flooding the roadways.

The high volume of rain caused at least six feet of water to accumulate in an underpass near Glendale Milford Road and Springfield Pike in Woodlawn. Emergency crews had to rescue a driver from a car that became stuck in the high water. That driver was not hurt.

On I-71, at least three cars were stranded by high water near the Dana/Montgomery exit near Norwood. The cars were reportedly unable to get through after water quickly accumulated on the highway.

As residents work to clean up, we are bracing for another wet day. Despite the predicted rain, Meteorologist Larry Handley says the storms will not be as severe as overnight.  Click here for the latest forecast.
