CLERMONT COUNTY, Ohio -- Police say a 3-year-old boy accidentally drowned after falling into a backyard pool during a family party in Monroe Township Sunday night.
According to Clermont County sheriff's deputies, Evan James Dell died in an above ground pool in the backyard of a home in the
1400 block of Frank Willis Memorial Road around 9 p.m.
Officials say Evan and his parents were in town from Wilmington, Ohio to visit his grandparents, who own the home.
The accident happened while the family attended a party for a family friend returning home from military training.
According to deputies, the children had finished swimming and were playing in another part of the yard when Evan apparently went back to the pool undetected.
Someone found him later and began administering CPR.
Monroe Township officials arrived soon after and pronounced him dead at the scene.
