Officials hope to learn Friday how soon three escaped Indiana prison inmates caught in Nebraska will return to the Tri-State.
Residents living in rural sections of Northern Kentucky will be able to stop looking over their shoulders, with word that three armed and dangerous prison escapees are now back behind bars, and no longer a threat to the area.
The escaped inmates were finally captured near Alliance, Nebraska Thursday evening after a short police chase.
The Nebraska State Patrol says 31-year-old Bobby Cockerell, 49-year-old Christopher Marshall and 59-year-old Jerry Sargent were arrested around 8 p.m. in the Nebraska panhandle.
Newspaper reports from that area say officers put down stop sticks to stop their fleeing car. Police say the escapees then tried to run on foot, but were captured without any injuries.
Officials were concerned about potential violence by the escapees. They were especially alarmed after the men broke into a Carroll County, Kentucky home Monday, assaulting three brothers who lived there, and making off with guns and the brothers' pick-up truck.
Jerry Sargent was from Dry Ridge, Kentucky and still has ties to the area. Some of his relatives actually went into hiding this week, for fear the inmates might be heading their way for revenge.
Officers at the Box Butte County Sheriff's Office say they can't remember the last time they arrested prison escapees from out-of-state. It's unclear whether these men will first have to face charges in Nebraska before they're eventually extradited back to the Tri-State; however, the sheriff's office says all three will likely go before a local Nebraska judge Friday morning.
After that, officials are not sure if the men will fight extradition back to the Tri-State.
As soon as we learn what happens at Friday's court appearance, we'll update the story for you here at
