People can now hike and bike on a trail from Williamsburg to Batavia.
The first two-and-a-half mile phase of the trail opened Friday with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
The state provided more than $415,000 in community project funds for the trail, federal highway funds paid for $218,000 of the project and there were numerous local donors.
Portions of the trail are old roads that were abandoned during the construction of Harsha Lake in East Fork State Park.
Work on the next phase will begin next year.
