First Lady Michelle Obama has invited 12 lucky Cincinnati Public School students to play in a concert at the White House next week.

It's a part of a brand new national initiative called "The White House Music Series."

This Tuesday some of those students invited practiced for the exclusive performance at The School for Creative and Performing Arts.

For students like Jonathan Carlisle, who wasn't even playing the piano 14 months ago, he feels honored for the opportunity.

"Being able to get a chance to be in a class where somebody that knows everything that I want to know –  that could just tell me right there –  is great," said Carlisle.

The 18-year-old student will take lessons from master musicians and perform for White House officials.

The students invited to play are: Cellists Titilayo Ayungade and Philip Goist; pianists Jonathon Carlisle, Lucy Hattemer, Christin McKenzie, Charles Ramsey III, Megan Steele and Steven Yee; violinists David Goist, Alan Lawson, Rachel Peters and Diedra Ryan.

Eleven of the lucky participants are students at the School for Creative and Performing Arts. Hattemer is from Walnut Hills High School.

Peters says it's a once in a lifetime opportunity.

"There's going to be 35 students total at this convention," Peters said. "Just to think that I'm one of them –  that they chose me out of all the other children in the country. It feels completely rewarding."

The 12 students will make their way to D.C. next Tuesday for the exclusive performance.
