William Hart case: Madeira robbery suspect accused of shooting store owner

CINCINNATI -- A man accused of robbing a Madeira store and shooting the owner more than nine months ago is due back in court.

Police have accused 37-year-old William Hart of robbing Madeira Beverage on Sept. 5, 2012 and shooting the owner, Roop Gupta.

As Hart fled the store following the robbery, officers said he fired four rounds from a small black pistol. Gupta, 60, was hit once in the abdomen. Gupta was taken to University Hospital where he was stabilized.

The owner's wife was also in the store when it was robbed. Police said she was thrown against a wine cellar, but still tried to chase the suspect after he fled on foot.

Police arrested Hart two weeks after the robbery during a routine traffic stop in Golf Manor.

Hart has been charged with two counts of aggravated robbery, two counts of felonious assault and one count of weapons under disability.

He has a hearing in Hamilton County Court at 9 a.m.
