WCPO takes home 11 regional Emmy Awards

CINCINNATI – The National Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) Ohio Valley Chapter honored WCPO-9 On Your Side with 11 regional Emmy Awards Saturday in Columbus, Ohio.

The Ohio Valley Chapter serves 13 television markets throughout a 4-state region that includes Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana and West Virginia.  WCPO-9 On Your Side won the most awards in the Cincinnati market.

“It’s great to be recognized for watching out for the people of Greater Cincinnati, as well as telling original stories in a creative way,” said Alex Bongiorno, news director at WCPO-9 On Your Side.

WCPO-9 On Your Side Chief Investigative Reporter Brendan Keefe collected an impressive nine statues for his work in the investigating reporting, general assignment reporting, editing, business/consumer specialty reporting, crime and continuing coverage categories.

Keefe’s award-winners included investigations on police gun availability, glaring problems with 911 operations, privacy concerns, local business disputes and disabled parking space controversies.

Bongiorno, Executive Producer Jennifer Cobb and Videographer Greg Singleton each collected an award for their contributions to Keefe’s investigative special reports.

Tony Mirones, a multi-media reporter and photographer, received two Emmys for his entries in the military and photography categories.

NATAS Ohio Valley is one of 19 regional chapters of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, headquartered in New York City. It is a professional service organization dedicated to the advancement of the arts and sciences of television and related media and to the promotion of creative leadership for artistic, educational and technical achievements within the television industry. As one of nineteen regional chapters, it is the standard-bearers for excellence in the television broadcasting industry and the gatekeepers of the prestigious regional Emmy Award.
