SPRINGBORO, Ohio – Police arrested a man with a gun on school property Thursday morning.

The man, 44-year-old Brian Streit, was on the Five Points Elementary School property with a firearm in his car but no permit to carry a concealed weapon, Springboro Community City Schools announced and Clearcreek Township Polcie Chief John Terril said.

Streit never entered the building and classes were not disrupted, according to school officials.

Police were at the school serving papers to Streit when they discovered the loaded handgun, Terril said. There was no indication Streit intended to use the weapon, he said.

It is actually legal for a properly licensed CCW permit holder to carry a loaded weapon onto school grounds, as long as the holder does not exit the vehicle with the weapon or enter the building with it, police said.

Streit did not have a valid permit and the weapon was concealed in the vehicle, police said.

Streit was charged with conveyance of a deadly weapon on school premises and improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle.

He was being held in Warren County Jail.
