Franklin PD keeps K-9 cool with special cruiser technology

FRANKLIN, Ohio -- We all know that dogs can't be left in a hot car. But what about dogs on duty?

Franklin Police Department has a special cruiser to keep K-9 Colt, a German Shepherd, cool while on patrol in the summer.

According to the Franklin PD Facebook page, the K-9 cruiser has an internal thermometer that will force the windows to roll down automatically and turn on a window fan. This is a safeguard in case the cruiser's engine shuts off or the air conditioner malfunctions, the post said.

As another means of protection, K-9 Colt also has a protective bulletproof vest.

Colt and his handler, Officer Patrick Holland, enjoy their time after work in the air conditioning and eating bowls of ice cream.

"If you see Officer Holland on patrol, make sure you wave and say "Hi" to Colt!" the post said
