CINCINNATI -- Many Cincinnatians waited all year for Oktoberfest Zinzinnati 2013. But even though the event was extended to three days this year it seemed to fly by as fast as ever.
If you're one of those who wants to relive this year's ode to German culture, beer and encased meats, you can do so by watching WCPO's video recaps of the daily goings on. You can view the videos of the largest Oktoberfest celebration in the United States in the media player above.
We saw wiener dogs dressed as hot dogs sprint across Fountain Square, sweated with runners during a beer-inspired 14K, watched a massive chicken dance performed by Mr. Sulu himself, stared at lederhosen-clad individuals as they sampled a variety of sauerkraut-topped fare and got sick while witnessing Joey “Jaws” Chestnut down 70 brats in 10 minutes.
Who Dey nation also had fun showing around out-of-town Cheese Heads who were visiting the Queen City for the Packers-Bengals game on Sunday. They had even more fun after 4:30 p.m. when the Bengals had earned a hard-fought come-from-behind victory over the squad from Green Bay.
Oh, we can't forget living vicariously through everyone who got to down steins full of ice-cold bier. Oh, the bier!
Wow, based on those highlights it seems like we had a lot of fun this weekend. And it appears a lot of us participated in the 38th rendition of the annual event.
According to the Cincinnati USA Regional Chamber, 2013 was a record-setting year for Cincinnati's premier event. Public relations manager Lancy Barry said an "impressive crowd" braved the soggy conditions for the first-ever Friday night opening of the event. He also called Sunday's attendance "extremely strong."
The Chamber said it was "thrilled" by the event overall, but was particularly impressed with Saturday's turn out. Based on sales, they predict attendance was up at least 25 percent from the previous Saturday record recorded, which was set last year.
More specific information will be released on Monday, Barry said.
