CINCINNATI - Think of your family reunion.
Now, imagine it on a scale that would fill the downtown riverfront park, Sawyer Point.
That's what will occur this weekend at the Midwest Black Family Reunion, one of the biggest events of its type in the country.
9 On Your Side photographer Lanny Brannock took viewers to Sawyer Point where preparations were underway for this weekend's 25th anniversary edition of the reunion.
The event was much smaller when it was created in 1986. Now, more than 100,000 people of all walks of life gather for the annual reunion in celebration of the black family.
Organizers set up fun and cultural events for attendees to enjoy while they get in touch with their historic roots and traditional black family values.
The reunion offers three days of free family-oriented activities and a special gathering at the Reds versus Diamondbacks game at 7:10 p.m. Monday.
The reunion runs from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday; 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday; and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday.
