CINCINNATI - March is Nation Kidney Month and Thursday marks World Kidney Day.
To celebrate the occasion, a group of people gathered on Fountain Square in Cincinnati, including the Cincinnati Bengals' Geno Atkins and 9 On Your Side's Tanya O'Rourke.
People we able to get a kidney health risk assessment screening, hear stories from people whose lives were saved by kidney transplants and stories from those who are still waiting for kidney transplants.
Tanya shared the story of her kidney donation to Susan Winkley that took place about a year and a half ago.
On the World Kidney Day awareness page , they describe the day as raising awareness of the importance of kidneys to a person's overall health, and to reduce the frequency and impact of kidney disease and its associated health problems.
There are close to 100,000 on a transplant list, still waiting to receive a life-saving kidney.
