CINCINNATI - Ghouls and goblins will join the animals at the Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden during weekends through the end of the month.

The zoo's festive holiday event known as HallZOOween includes trick-or-treat stations for kids, special animal encounters, Phil Dalton's Theater of Illusion show, train rides, The Wizard of OZ 4-D Experience and the Scare-ousel.

Children are encouraged to wear costumes.

Animal-related events to take place during the celebration include tiger pumpkin play, polar bear pumpkin fun and a snow monkey pumpkin party. To help kick off the month-long event on Oct. 6, the zoo's three Asian elephants smashed pumpkins filled with treats.

HallZOOween, presented by Frisch's Big Boy, is free with zoo admission.

The event will run all weekend long through Oct. 28. The scary fun is open to guests noon until 5 p.m. each day.
