HARLAN, Ohio - A Little Miami school bus with students onboard was involved in an accident in Warren County Friday morning.
Four students, all first and second graders, were on the bus when it crashed near the intersection of Whitacre Road and Gustin Rider Road in Harlan Township at about 8:30 a.m. One student sustained a minor knee injury in the crash, according to a Harlan Township Fire Chief Andy Mitten.
The bus driver, whose name has not been released, was driving to Harlan-Butlerville Primary School when it swerved off the side of the road to avoid an oncoming vehicle that was drifting into the center lane. When the school bus swerved, it dipped into a ditch and clipped a tree, said Little Miami Communications Director Melinda Briggs. The bus sustained minor damage in the crash, she added.
The students were not transported to an area hospital and they were released to either parents or school administrators.
The bus driver is on paid leave while authorities investigate the accident, as is customary is these kinds of situations, Briggs said.
Officials have not released any additional details about the crash.
