OXFORD, Ohio - The son of U.S. Representative Steve Chabot is facing criminal charges following his arrest near Miami University.
Brandon Chabot, 22, was arrested just after 2 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 5.
Police were called to the 5100 block of Morningsun Road in Oxford after a fire alarm was sounded. Officers arrived and found Chabot, who is a student at Miami University, outside the building and highly intoxicated. Initially, Chabot told officers he was an employee of the building, which is an annex to McCullough Hyde Hospital, according to Oxford Police Sgt. Jon Varley.
He told police he was likely confused about his location.
Police discovered windows on a door had been broken. Chabot was questioned and arrested for breaking and entering, making false alarms and disorderly conduct.
Chabot is out of jail on bond and a preliminary hearing is pending.
Congressman Chabot released the following statement on Thursday:
"Every family faces challenges at times. Ours is no different. He's our son and we love him."
No other information has been released at this time.
