Organizers expected more than half a million people to turn out to take part in a bunch of free, family-friendly events like the KiddChris Cardboard Boat Race (2 p.m.) and the Rubber Duck Regatta (3 p.m.). They also hung out in the P&G Family Fun zones, enjoyed live music and filled their bellies with delicious food from various food vendors.
Capping it all off, the main event, Rozzi's Famous Fireworks display, one of the most spectacular light-and-sound shows in the country. This year's theme was "Back to the Fireworks" and planners choreographed it to an '80s soundtrack.
But for many people Riverfest is more than just a chance to have fun along the picturesque riverfront terrain. It's an opportunity to enjoy time with friends and family.
Among the crowds, WCPO reporter John Genovese caught up with a father-daughter pair for whom Riverfest holds several decades’ worth of memories.
"I was 3 months old in September of 1981 and my dad brought me down and I haven't missed one yet," recalled Amanda Cool.
Even though she now lives in Boston, Cool makes a special trip almost every year to take part in the Cincinnati tradition.
"It was so important to her I had foot surgery this week and I was trying to talk her out of coming down here and she wouldn't do it," joked her father, Clyde Platt.
