CINCINNATI -- A young man was fatally shot inside his Springfield Township home Sunday morning during a home invasion.

The home located in the 1100 block of Tassie Lane was ransacked by two intruders around 8 a.m. on Sunday, according to police. Vince Turnage, 19, was shot by the intruders and died on the scene from a single gunshot wound.

"I don't know where my son is. I don't know if he's been shot. We heard a shot fired," Turnage's mother said on the 911 call obtained by 9 On Your Side's Scott Wegener. "I don't know what happened."

A track star at Mt. Healthy High School, Turnage graduated just last year.

He was enrolled at the University of Akron running track as a sprinter, before returning to Cincinnati this fall.

Wegener talked to a close friend of Turnage's, Jemiah Tolbert who said he went to the Mt. Healthy football game with Turnage the Friday before he was killed.

"He was clowning, just like normal. Just being funny. Just being silly Vince," Tolbert said.

Two days later when Tolbert learned his friend had died, he broke down.

"He didn't deserve it. Vince ain't had no problems with nobody," Tolbert said.

Anyone who has additional information on the incident is asked to call the Springfield Township Police Department at (513) 729-1300 or Crime Stoppers at (513) 351-3040.
