OSGOOD, Ind. -- Two tornadoes touched down in Ripley County, Ind. during severe weather Thursday, moving a modular home off its foundation.

An EF1 tornado with wind speeds of about 90 mph shattered the windows of the home in Osgood. It also ripped off a portion of its roof.

Officials said a second tornado, an EF0, touched down in the area and hit speeds of about 70 mph.

A woman and her granddaughter were in the home when the tornado struck and huddled in a closet to stay safe.

Judy Werner said she had no idea how much damage was done to her home until she left the closet – which she’s now dubbed the “prayer room." When she gained her senses, she called her son Tony for help.

"When we first got (to the home) it was dark,” Tony Werner said. “We walked up to the porch because there was an overhang with some columns and I was getting ready to grab for the door (but) it was so far away.”

That was just the beginning of discovering all the damage.

Friday morning, Werner and her granddaughter left the home and took what belongings they could salvage.

Tony said his mom was joking around during the frenzy, but as she was moving out it really started to hit her.

The EF0 tornado damaged a barn nearby.

No one was injured during either of the tornadoes.

The EF-ratings are tied to the Enhanced Fujita scale, which estimates maximum wind speeds in these categories:

  • EF0 = 65-85 mph
  • EF1 = 86-110 mph
  • EF2 = 111-135 mph
  • EF3 = 136-165 mph
  • EF4 = 166-200 mph
  • EF5 = 200 mph and higher
