CINCINNATI - In the past few years we've seen dozens of workout trends from hot yoga and reformer Pilates to P90X and TRX.
Right now the new hot workout trend involves hanging from the ceiling and shaking it with a hula hoop and it's taught by the Cincinnati Circus group.
First came the circus, then Cirque Du Soleil flew in. Now comes your chance to run away to the circus for a workout.
You can swing from the silks and move with the hoops at this aerial hoops and fitness class."One of the cool things about this class is I came in with absolutely no arm strength or core strength," said Becky Johnson, a student in the class.Johnson came across the classes on the Internet and wanted to give it a try."These classes could help you climb and hoop your way to strength and flexibility. And Becky says it's more fun than pumping iron," said Lindsey Splendov, an aerial hoop and fitness instructor.Splendov says the controlled movements can help you develop long, lean muscles and burn calories.
"I've seen significant weight loss, toning, and they just fell in love with it. It's definitely like the next big thing that's going to come out on the fitness market," Splendov said.The instructors say, if you can get off the couch, you can take this class."If I learned how to hang myself upside down on a silk or I learned how to hula hoop around my neck or even a handstand ...Or I can do 10 push-ups now, that's a big deal for me," said Johnson.If you're looking for something to spice up your routine, you should give this a swing.
