CINCINNATI - Tuesday afternoon city officials announced the latest business opening up at The Banks downtown. It's called Mahogony's and it's an African-American soul food restaurant that specializes in southern cuisine.
The restaurant will be in between Holy Grail and the upcoming Tin Roof. This will be the first minority business on the banks and city officials say they are excited about it. The City of Cincinnati actually invested $300,000 to the owners to purchase machinery and kitchen items for the restaurant. All of the recipes are homemade. Some of the items on the menu include, Po Boy sandwiches, Salmon Croquettes, Chicken and Waffles and Shrimp and Grits.
Restaurant owners Liz and Trent Rogers say they are excited to expand to the downtown area.
"Everything is cooked from scratch and it's cooked with a lot of love, and it's cooked fresh just like being at your grandmother's house or your mom's house, and it's the experience, I had a customer come in and was expecting dinner and ended up staying for three hours because they were dancing and doing karaoke," said Liz Rogers.
The restaurant will official open sometime in the Spring.
