Latest Gallup poll: John Boehner was clobbered by Obama's popularity

A new Gallup poll showed Wednesday that although Rep. John Boehner's popularity rebounded slightly, he falls behind President Barack Obama.

According to the poll, 32 percent of Americans have a favorable view of the West Chester native, while 52 percent favor the president.

Justin McCarthy, Gallup Politics writer, said 2014 could be a turning point for Boehner as he recovers from the October federal government shutdown.

"His favorability has now edged back up to where it was in April of last year (31%), and he recently allowed a vote on the debt ceiling increase with no attached legislation -- a move Boehner had never previously made as speaker," McCarthy said.

Boehner and Obama have never been fans of negotiating, and a tough 2013 didn't help. As 2014 continues, the poll sheds light on Obama's popularity, as issues of immigration, economics and government operations maintain debate.
