Kroger is ‘Giving Hope a Hand' by raising funds for breast cancer research

CINCINNATI - All Cincinnati and Dayton area Kroger stores, in partnership with several suppliers, are participating in this year's Giving Hope a Hand campaign, a fundraising effort for breast cancer research.

The annual fundraising campaign features Kroger associates who are breast cancer survivors on the packaging of participating products. Five associates from stores in Cincinnati and Dayton areas are being included in this year's program.

Lisa Kistner, 78, an associate at a Dayton Kroger store, and Maysville Kroger employee Sandra Thomas are two of the local survivors who will be featured in the campaign. Kistner will appear on packages of Kellogg's Cracker Chips, while Thomas will appear on Pepsi standees.

"Our Kroger family is comprised of more than 22,000 associates," Sukanya Madlinger, President of Kroger's Cincinnati/Dayton division said. "With a family of that size, breast cancer has touched us all, whether personally, through our home family or through our work family we've all witnessed the battle. Some battles have been won, some lost, but all were faced with great courage. And that courage is made evident with the touching stories our associates have told. The cure may not have been found just yet, but we have plenty of hope that it will."

Kroger, which kicked off its campaign Sept. 23, is expected to raise an additional $175,000 for local breast cancer initiatives. According to Kroger, this is the sixth consecutive year it has committed more than $3 million in donations to breast cancer initiatives across the country.

The campaign earned Kroger the 2012 Gold HALO award from the Cause Marketing Forum.
