FT. WRIGHT, Ky - It's been five months since a tragic car accident took the lifeof a Northern Kentucky student.
Now, the family of Maria Schaffstein wants to give back to thecommunity who has supported them during their time of grief.
Her family has organized a 5K run/walk in Maria's memorycalled Smiles 4 Miles.
"Maria was always smiling. It's ironic I've never seen apicture of her when she wasn't," said John Schaffstein, Maria'sFather. "She always made us a better family because she reached outfor everything and just pushed through life with an amazing amountof vigor love and passion."
Maria lost her young life in a tragic car crash in Alabama inApril while returning from spring break with her friends.
Her father says the support from the communities of Ft. Wrightand Park Hills helped get them through their devastating loss.
"It's been very difficult. There is no question about it. Idon't think we would be where we are without the support we'vereceived from everyone," said Schaffstein.
So to say thank you for that support, family and friends haveorganized a 5k run walk to take place next Sunday at St. Agnes.
The proceeds from Smiles 4 Miles will benefit the school'sstudents.
