St. Charles Community's 8th annual Golf Scramble to benefit seniors

Covington

St. Charles Community will hold its 8th annual Golf Scramble on Thursday, Aug. 28, at Twin Oaks Golf Course.

The event will entail a 18-hole golf session and contests such as closest to the pin, longest drive and longest putt. There will also be a $5 split the pot for the golfers and a free raffle for $150 worth of gift certificates sponsored by the Charlie's Angels volunteer group.

The event will also include a silent auction featuring over 30 items such as signed UK basketball, a basket of sweets, Cincinnati Reds Basket with tickets, family movie night in and dinner, Churchill Downs racing package and ski package at Perfect North Slopes.

Registration for the event will begin at 9 a.m. with a shotgun start at 10 a.m.

A continental breakfast will be available at 9 a.m. Twin Oaks will grill burgers and hot dogs on the porch for lunch from approximately 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Dinner, which will consist of a full buffet of sliced turkey, prime rib and salmon, salad, vegetables, dessert, coffee and tea will be served around 3:30 p.m. when all of the golfers arrive back to the clubhouse.

"The golf outing was created as a fundraising initiative to help support St. Charles' Community based services and to provide an opportunity for St. Charles and the broader community to come together for a day of fun," said Carolyn Drews, development coordinator and organizer of the event. "The Golf Scramble is a great opportunity to bring awareness to the growing needs of senior adults and St. Charles' ability to meet those needs"

Proceeds from this year's event will help support St. Charles' Angelic Fund, which provides financial assistance to seniors who lack monetary resources to access the community based services.

Since 2007, the Golf Scramble and silent auction has raised $85,350.

Those wishing to participate in the Golf Scramble must be at least 21 years old. There will be four golfers to a team. Drews said they are expecting 75 to 80 golfers this year.

The cost is $100 per golfer, which includes cart, the three meals, beverages on the course, prizes and snacks. Guests can attend only the dinner for $30 per person.
