COVINGTON, Ky. -- It was a mystery in the streets of Latonia: Police were going door to door to try and identify the body of a woman found early Thursday morning at the corner of West 30th Street and Decoursey Avenue.

Police said a woman with pigtails was found lying dead in the intersection with injuries to her head just after 4 a.m. Thursday. The mother of the woman was located and identified her as 35-year-old Chasity Star Hamilton around 6:30 a.m. Her mother, Jackie Wiseman, told police Hamilton had gone out to grab a drink from a gas station around 4 a.m.

The circumstances surrounding Hamilton's death are unknown and under investigation by the Covington Police Department's Criminal Investigations Bureau.

Wiseman said police believe her daughter was hit by a car or maybe a semi truck.

"I'm asking whoever did something like that, please step forward," Wiseman said. "This girl, I mean, she has a family and she was loved so much and she is already missed."

Covington Police are asking anyone with information regarding the circumstances surrounding Hamilton’s death to call Detective Jim West at (859) 292-2207.
