COVINGTON, Ky. – Police identified two men they believe were involved in a weekend gunfight that injured a 9-year-old boy.
On Monday, arrest warrants were issued for David Watson, 34, and Jonathan Kornegay, 31. The boy was grazed in the stomach and head by crossfire while at his grandmother's home in Covington's City Heights housing complex on Sunday.
The boy was still being treated at Children's Hospital Medical Center with his non-life threatening injuries, police said Monday.
The initial incident occurred around 12:15 p.m. in the 2500 block of Alden Court.
Rebecca Julian, who helped the boy, said she heard about 15 gunshots before the boy ran into her arms and told her he had been shot.
Julian said she tended to the boy's injuries while waiting for medics to arrive.
"When somebody's bleeding you put pressure on it. We wrapped him in a blanket and waited for the ambulance to get here," she said.
Police Chief Spike Jones said residents of the neighborhood cooperated with the investigation.
Police hope the suspects turn themselves in. They ask anyone with information to call the Covington Police Department at 859-292-2220.
