Traffic reopens on Roebling Bridge after police find man's body

COVINGTON, Ky. – Traffic was delayed for morning commuters taking the Roebling Bridge while police conducted a death investigation.

The incident was first reported about 7:30 a.m. Friday.

Police blocked off the southbound lanes of the bridge before letting traffic alternate via the northbound lanes Officers started to clear the scene by about 8:45 a.m.

Investigators said the victim was a 50-year-old man from Hamilton.

The Kenton County Coroner said it appears the man was jogging when he suffered a medical emergency causing him to die suddenly.

The coroner said the victim was wearing a pedometer, headphones and running gear when he was found.

People on the bridge said they were stunned to see a death investigation just a few feet away from where they take their morning walk.

"We saw the traffic stop and first we thought it was a wreck, and then we saw people standing on the side and thought it was a jumper, until we saw the body covered with a sheet,” resident Nancy Cunningham said.

Investigators have not released any other details.
