COVINGTON, Ky. -- A local nonprofit provided back to school essential to low income families across the Tri-State.

Northern Kentucky Harvest hosted its 16th annual “Backpacks and Breakfast” event at Goebel Park Saturday, providing 900 students with backpacks stuffed with school supplies.

Free breakfast was provided by Frisch’s, and children could also receive a medical screening free of charge.

Paul Gottbrath, president of Northern Kentucky Harvest, said he has been pleased with the community’s response to the event.

“We started this because we know there's a big need out there, and we're glad that the word got out about it and that a lot of people are here to take advantage of it,” Gottbrath said.

Northern Kentucky Harvest is a non-profit organization that collects food, clothing and supplies for other nonprofits that serve low income families in the area.
