HILLSBORO, Ohio - Highland County Sheriff Ron Ward is offering a $1,000 reward for any information leading to the arrest and conviction of a suspect or suspects who shot at one of his deputies Monday morning.
The incident occurred around 3 a.m. near the Highland and Pike counties line after deputy Thomas Putnam attempted to stop a Dodge Stratus for not displaying visible license plates on State Route 41.
Once he stopped the car that fled inside Pike County, a drive and passenger exited the vehicle.
The passenger then used a shotgun to fire at Putnam, according to investigators. The windshield and lightbar on the deputy’s cruiser was damage. Putnam was uninjured in the exchange.
Eventually the driver of the Stratus and passenger got back into the vehicle and fled into neighboring Adams County.
The Stratus is described as a late 1990s to early 2000s model, being dark in color, possibly gray. Putnam did fire at the vehicle at one point, striking it.
During the incident Hamilton County put out an all-county broadcast for deputies to be on the lookout for the vehicle.
Anyone who spots the vehicle is asked to call 911 immediately.
The Highland County Sheriff's Office may be contacted at 937-393-142.
