READING, Ohio - A man accused of attempting to entice an 11-year-old girl into his car in broad daylight is scheduled for arraignment Tuesday morning.
Police arrested Malick Ndao, 49, Monday for allegedly trying to coax the girl into his Green Toyota Camry three separate times within five minutes on July 4 in the 400 and 500 block of Jefferson Avenue in Reading.
“I said no and I said, ‘please go away,’” the girl told 9 On Your Side reporter Bryce Anslinger. “I looked at his license plate and he zoomed off.”
The victim was walking to her aunt’s house on Jefferson Avenue at about 4 p.m. when police say Ndao approached her in his car and tried to convince her three times to get in with him.
“It was very scary because I’ve heard on the news people have been kidnapped in Reading before and I didn’t want to get away from my mom,” the girl said. “[My mom] told me never to get in anyone’s car, always look at the license plate and tell an adult as soon as possible.”
The victim’s mother said she didn’t think her daughter understood what could have happened to her and though she always believed her neighborhood to be safe, she will be making changes after the incident.
“It was horrifying,” the girls mother said. “I just keep thinking, thank goodness she got away.”
