CINCINNATI -- A 2-year-old was shot Friday afternoon in Lincoln Heights, authorities said.

The shooting happened in the 900 block of Adams Street and was reported just before 1 p.m.

Police said the child was shot while inside a white Honda Accord, which was still at the scene on Adams St. when police were investigating Friday afternoon. The vehicle had several bullet holes on its side and window.

"I heard the shots, and saw the little baby on the hood, and he was bleeding real bad." said nearby resident Dorothy Gilbert.

Adams St. was shut down while several police agencies scouted the scene. The child's father was also present and speaking with authorities.

Detectives said there were two men in the white Honda during the shooting, a driver who was not injured and an unknown man who left the scene before police arrived.

There was another scene related to the shooting two blocks away on Van Buren Street that police also taped off. Police also sectioned off two blocks on Legget Street.

Investigators believe the situation began at the intersection of Van Buren and Leggett streets, then moved south toward Jackson Street and eventually to Adams St. where the child was shot.

The child was taken to Cincinnati Children's Hospital for surgery and was released.

No information has been released on a suspect or the condition of the child.

Detectives are asking anyone with information on this case to call the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office at 513-852-1500 or Crime Stoppers at 513-352-3040.
