Shawn Ross: Man arrested after evading police in Forest Park

FOREST PARK, Ohio -- A Covington man police say stole a vehicle from a mother and her child while leading officers on a chase through Forest Park is scheduled for arraignment in a Hamilton County courtroom Monday.

Shawn Ross was in the Hamilton County Justice Center Saturday after police began a search for him at 8:14 p.m. Friday. Forest Park initiated a pursuit of Ross after he sped off from a traffic stop. The car Ross drove was involved in a robbery at a Meijer store in Fairfield, police report.

Ross wrecked that car into a police cruiser at 1440 West Kemper Road before fleeing on foot to a nearby apartment complex. In the parking lot of the complex, Ross forced a woman and her son from a van he then used to flee once again.

The victim of the carjacking, Reevie Bailey, "When he first came in he was, you know, 'I'm sorry, I've got to take (your van). I've to take it. I'm sorry.' And then it was like, 'get out! Get out!'"

Bailey said she hit the suspect with items from a bag of groceries in her van and tried to take the key out of the ignition before getting out of the van. But she was unable to keep the suspect from taking her car.

The van wrecked on West Kemper Road near Hamilton Avenue before Ross fled once again, this time into a wooded area. He was not immediately located.

According to court documents, he was arrested when he tried to break into a home on Winford Lane Saturday morning.

Ross was charged with robbery, fleeing and eluding police. He will appear in court at 9 a.m.
