FAIRFIELD, Ohio -- A local family is asking for the Tri-State's help as their 6-year-old daughter Makayla fights an inoperable brain tumor in Houston, Texas.

Fairfield residents Ana Marie and Kevin Borg started a GoFundMe page to raise $130,000 and have already raised $19,170 from 246 donors over the past month (as of Friday morning). A family friend told WCPO the medical costs to treat Makayla's juvenile pilocytic astrocytoma run $17,000 per month and are not covered by insurance.

Doctors found the mass in her brain on June 3, and Makayla has already had multiple surgeries and MRIs to monitor the tumor. The page says Makayla will need weekly treatment for about 10 weeks and then monthly treatment for a year. Doctors will then set up the next treatment steps at that point.

The family will host a benefit for Makayla on Sept. 17 at the Blue Bird House in Bridgetown. Details for the benefit are forthcoming.

Her family left the following thank you message on the page.

"We want everyone to know how much we appreciate everything everyone is doing to help our family. It's a little embarrassing for us to have ask help. We always went to charity events and donated and never pictured us needing to reach out so that we could keep getting our daughter the treatment she needs today, tomorrow and in they years to come."
