FAIRFAX, Ohio -- The Cincy Care to Share program provided free health services to those in need across the Tri-State on Friday.
Advance Dentistry in Fairfax set aside the day to offer free dental care for those who do not have access to regular dental care, are in pain or cannot afford treatment. Patients were seen from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Dental services at Cincy Care to Share were limited to a cleaning, a filling or an extraction. Services were offered on a first come, first serve basis to patients 18 years old or older.
In order to ensure they were among those who'd receive treatment, many would-be patients camped out to be among the first in line for the free services.
"I had a job, got laid off, didn't get the chance to get insurance. So yeah, this is a big help," said patient James Hanson.
Advance Dentistry spokesperson Jessica Morgan discussed the importance of the event given the fact dental insurance is a luxury many people can’t afford.
"Dental insurance isn't like medical insurance and a ton of people don't carry dental insurance,” she said. “So, we just want to provide for the people that cannot afford it. And, a lot of people can't these days."
Dr. Scott Sayre, DDS, who founded the program two years ago, thinks financial considerations have had a negative impact on dental hygiene and health, a trend he hopes to help end.
"With the economy today, basic dental services, which are fundamental to everyday health, are being neglected," said Dr. Sayre. "With Cincy Care to Share, we're looking to change that."
In addition to helping those in need, Dr. Sayre wants to use Cincy Care to Share as a model other professional organizations use to establish ways to give back.
According to the Cincy Care to Share website, Dr. Sayre and his team at Advance Dentistry formed the program as a way to give back to the community and encourage professionals to donate their time and services of any kind for one day each year.
