DELHI, Ohio - Delhi Police are searching for a suspect they said raped and attempted to rob a woman at gunpoint around 3:15 Saturday morning.
Detectives don't think the incident was random. They think it is a strong possibility the victim was followed home.
However, neighbor Kirby McDonagh said she is being extra cautious.
"I go out on my back deck all the time by myself and to know something like this has happened, it's very scary," she said.
Delhi Police said the incident happened at the woman's home in the 1100 block of Hickorylake Drive. She was raped outside her home.
"I feel very sorry for her, I hope she has good support, I hope her family is there for her and I will pray for her every night, and hope everyone else will too."
Police said the suspect ordered the woman to walk away from him and towards the woods behind the residence, while he fled the scene.
This is an all too familiar situation for McDonagh.
"When I was 19, I was abducted at gunpoint by a rapist who had raped three girls in Florence and took their car, came and found me in the parking lot of IGA where I was working," she said.
However, McDonagh had a different ending. She got away from her attacker.
Delhi Police are asking everyone to keep an eye out for this suspect. He is being described as a white man in his twenties. Police are working on a composite sketch.
Anyone who may have seen a suspicious person or vehicle in the Hickorylake subdivision is being asked to call Crime Stoppers at 513-352-3040.
